MOROCCAN WEDDING IDEAS
72Morocco weddings are very beautiful. I love the bright colors, fabrics, designs and accents used to capture this theme. I first would like to get into the custom traditions that a Moroccan wedding consist of. Prior to the big day, many festivities are held within seven days. I find them to be interesting and wanted to share what they are with you. Please keep in mind, some of these old Moroccan wedding cultures and traditions have either discontinued or exist only in the rural areas however I wanted to touch base on some of them as it is informative to know.
Icluded in pre-wedding ceremonies is an assortment of gifts sent to the bride. Gifts would range from golden jewelry, clothing, and perfumes from the groom's family. One of the first gatherings is a Moroccan "Furnishing Party", like a bridal shower for Americans, the furnishing party is a gala of women that bring the bride household items such as handmade blanket, bedding, and a Moroccan couch to the couple’s new home. A second gathering is a traditional "Milk Bath" for the bride to perform. It is known to purify her. A third gathering would be a Henna Party or Beberiska ceremony that takes place at night before the wedding. Henna Party, similar to a Bachlorette party for Americans, is a night for the women of the family, relatives and female friends to get together. Artists paint the hands and feet of the bride and her party with Hen in intricate designs, usually floral and geometrical designs that are meant to ward off evil spirits, bring good luck and increase fertility. The grooms name is often hidden in the designs. The party enjoys food, music and ‘secrets’ of marriage from the older women.
On the wedding day, delicious food is prepared for the guests. The ceremony takes place in great gaieties. There would be lovely singing, live percussion such as beating drums, and dancing as the groom and the bride are lead to the bridal chamber. Modern Moroccan weddings usually take place at night at big villas that are solely rented out for weddings. The men usually wear suits, and the women in their best caftans made out of delicate laces, and intricately beaded.
I have highlighted some of the traditions on my photos as well as inspiration concept photos capture this theme. I hope you find them useful in planning your special day. Please check out http://bellamevents.theaspenshops.com/ for beautiful accents to add to your galas.
